JEFFERSON CITY, Mo.---The Missouri Public Service Commission held in-person and virtual public hearings Aug. 26, 2024, to September 11, 2024, to receive customer comments in a natural gas rate case filed by Liberty Utilities (Midstates Natural Gas) Corp. d/b/a Liberty. Liberty filed a request for an additional virtual local public hearing due to Liberty not providing notice of the previously scheduled local public hearings to all of its customers. The virtual local public hearing schedule appears below.

The Stockton FFA Labor Auction will be on the big stage in the city park on Saturday starting at 5:30 p.m. FFA members will auction off seven hours of their labor to buyers. Half of the money will go to the chapter, and the member will receive the other half. Buyers will receive the seller's contact information and can contact them when they want them to work.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop D, Julian Stacy, 65, of El Dorado Springs, was seriously injured in a one-car accident on September 20 when the 2010 Honda Civic she was driving went off the road at HWY BB six miles south of ElDo.

Stockton First Southern Baptist Church will have a booth at the Black Walnut Festival that will be set up for moms and dads to take care of their babies and toddlers. The booth will provide a clean, private area for changing diapers and feeding babies. The organization urges parents to stop in and take care of their little ones, or just enjoy a chat as they visit the annual festival.

Last Friday, the Tigers mauled the visiting Bears of Sarcoxie, extending their win streak to three games and bringing their season record to 3-1. Currently, the Tigers are a three seed in Class 2, District 5, behind #1 Lamar and #2 Warsaw.

It was a busy week for the Lady Tigers as they traveled to El Dorado Springs on Monday, hosted Buffalo on Tuesday, traveled to Diamond on Thursday, and then spent most of Saturday competing in the Buffalo Lady Bison Invitational at Buffalo High School. Adversity continued to be the theme as the Lady Tigers fell to El Dorado Springs, Buffalo, and Diamond 3-0. At the Buffalo Tournament, the Lady Tigers fell to Buffalo and Eldon 2-0, picked up a win against Cassville (2-0), and then tied Hallsville 1-1. The Lady Tigers finished third in pool play, but only the Top 2 finishers in each pool advanced to bracket play.

Last Saturday, the Tigers and Lady Tigers traveled to Joplin to compete in the 2024 Missouri Southern High School Stampede Across Country Meet. Ninety-two teams, including schools from Arkansas, Kansas, and Oklahoma were in attendance. Both the Tigers and Lady Tigers were strong competitors, with each group placing several runners in the Top 100. Well over 300 competitors participated in the girls and boys competitions.

On Monday, the Lady Tigers golf team took a trip down Highway 32 to participate in the Bolivar Invitational Golf Tournament. 26 teams participated, giving the Lady Tigers ample competition. Due to illness, only four golfers were able to make the trip so the team competed only on the individual level. It was a tough day for the ladies as none of the Lady Tigers were able to place in the Top Ten. Carli Burchett paced the Lady Tigers over 18 holes, scoring a 101. She was followed by Kendra Bishop with a 111 and Vanessa Nail with a 117.

The Opera House Theater in El Dorado Springs has gone through many changes and renovations since it first opened in 1915, and it is destined to go through more. The Opera House Arts Council, which currently rents the theater and serves to operate it on a volunteer basis, will be closing the theater October 4 as the building has been sold, according to Arts Council president Shelly Barger.
