City Fourth of July fireworks are discussed at January board meeting

It may be February, but July city fireworks were a topic of conversation when the Stockton Board of Aldermen met at city hall on January 27 for the regularly scheduled meeting. The city recently asked for firework display bids but had only received one bid. Bidding, however, is still open. Price and availability are the problems with finding a licensed fireworks business to do the show. However, if the one bid is finalized at the next meeting, the city fireworks display will be on June 28.

Stockton local Faith King is almost finished with the new mural she is currently painting at the Stockton branch of the Cedar County Library. A recent donation from the Skaggs' Children's Literacy Fund has allowed for new renovations to the library's kids and youth section.

What a difference a year can make

Early last year, El Dorado Springs welcomed a new police chief following the resignation of long-time Chief Jerrod Shiereck. On January 29, 2024, Brett Dawn took the oath of office to become the police chief of El Dorado Springs.

Stockton library challenges photographers to enter for the Coolest Photo

The Stockton branch of the Cedar County library has asked photographers to submit their coolest photos of Cedar County or the Stockton area by January 31. Eight to ten photos will be selected and displayed in a special library area.

Lady Tigers Nab First Win in 2025

Last Tuesday, the Lady Tigers traveled to Marionville in a make-up matchup delayed by inclement weather the week before. It was a tough night on the road as Marionville grabbed the Southwest Conference win, 54-38. The following evening, the Lady Tigers hosted the Lamar Tigers who took the matchup, 57-51. Finally, the Lady Tigers hit the road on Friday along with their Tiger counterparts for a girls/boys combined outing and pulled off an overtime victory, 50-48 against the Adrian Blackhawks.
At Adrian last Friday, junior Jax Baxter (center) scored his 1,000 point enroute to a hard fought victory over the Adrian Blackhawks. Teammates and classmates were on hand to help him celebrate this impressive milestone.

Tigers Drop 2 Of 3 Last Week; Baxter Hits 1,000 Points

Last week, the Tigers faced a gauntlet of three games, facing the #4 ranked Class 3 Greenwood Bluejays in Springfield on Monday, hosting Lamar on Tuesday, and then traveling to Adrian for a boys/girls combined night on Friday. The Tigers fell at Greenwood and to Lamar but bounced back with a strong victory at Adrian.

Last week, the Tigers traveled to Marionville before returning home to host Skyline in a game postponed to Saturday because of inclement weather. The Tigers thumped Marionville 60-41 and then handled the Skyline Tigers, 55-48, on Saturday evening at Stockton High School, grabbing the early lead in the Southwest Conference standings.

Lady Tigers Battle In Morrisville Tournament

Last week, the Stockton Lady Tigers competed in the 7th Annual Morrisville Girls Tournament, their second tournament in as many weeks. With stiff competition, the Lady Tigers took one of three games, losing to Walnut Grove in the tournament opener, defeating Lamar in semifinal action, and dropping the consolation game to the host Marion C. Early (Morrisville) Lady Panthers.

El Dorado firefighters are honored during appreciation dinner

What began several years ago as an appreciation dinner to honor the families of firefighters has evolved into an event that not only expresses gratitude to these families but also to the firefighters, first responders, and citizens of the community.
Students representing several grades from El Dorado Springs were able to take a ride on one of the new electric buses.

Still yellow on the outside but all green inside

ElDO is officially green after receiving thirteen new electric buses. This delivery was made possible due to funding from the Environmental Protection Agency or EPA's 2022 Clean School Bus Program, which will provide $5 billion over five years (FY 2022-2026) to replace existing school buses with zero-emission and clean school buses.
Tom Ryan of Cedar County is hired as EMS Ambulance Director for the new Cedar County Ambulance District which will go into operation April 1. Ryan retired from CMH after 12 years as Western Regional Operations Manager over Stockton, ElDo, and St. Clair.

It's happening. Cedar County will have its own ambulance district

It has been years of planning, studying budgets, looking at response times, and preparing facilities, but on April 1 at 12:01 a.m. Cedar County will have its own ambulance district with local EMTs and medics. Cedar County Ambulance District (CCAD) will be taking over all EMS operations from Citizens Memorial Hospital (CMH), Bolivar.
