Last Friday, the Tigers traveled to Springfield to take on the Springfield Central Bulldogs. Despite being a Class 5 school, the Bulldogs have struggled on the gridiron in recent years. As Central celebrated their 100th homecoming, the Tigers hoped to keep their win streak alive. Stockton started slow with penalties hampering the offense, but the defense played well throughout the night, holding the Bulldogs to a single score. After halftime, the Tigers found their momentum and pulled away to a lopsided victory, 34-7. more

As I looked out my kitchen window one morning, I spotted that familiar lone dove that’s been around since 2021. Like me, I think she’s a female. Then I watched a small bird beat a worm to death before he ate it. (Silly me, I always thought worms were eaten alive.) Nature was happily doing its thing. Next, I spotted a hawk on the ground with a baby rabbit in its talons. I was not pleased with this nature scene. I thought, “How dare you snatch one of my furry little animals without my permission! You’re on my property and you do that! How rude!” more

On September 18, the Cedar County Sheriff’s Department made a gruesome discovery of dead and neglected animals at a property on 675 Road near Stockton after a neighbor reported a pit bull had been killing her chickens. Rhonda Heard, formerly of Stockton, was arrested, prosecuted, and will go before Cedar County Judge Jacob Dawson today for a bond reduction hearing. She is charged with animal neglect, animal abuse, and property damage, all misdemeanors carrying fines and/or sentences. She is being held on a $5,000 bond, and Sheriff James McCrary said more persons may be charged with the case. more

The Stockton FFA Labor Auction will be on the big stage in the city park on Saturday starting at 5:30 p.m. FFA members will auction off seven hours of their labor to buyers. Half of the money will go to the chapter, and the member will receive the other half. Buyers will receive the seller's contact information and can contact them when they want them to work. more
