Joe and Tami Hughes’ dream will come to fruition this November when their project, Nasty Nelson Pickleball Courts, opens to the public.

The 10,000-square-foot facility, located at 703 Arnold Way in Stockton, will feature four full courts, an indoor golf simulator, cornhole and space for local mahjong players.

“We became obsessed with playing pickleball,” Tami said, and they are not alone.

According to the Sports and Fitness Industry Association, approximately 24.3 million Americans played pickleball in 2025, making it the fastest-growing sport in the United States.

Currently, the Ray Zumwalt Exhibition Center has some courts, but pickleball clubs have grown in size and membership, outgrowing the available space for matches.

The new facility will accommodate different leagues, including women’s, men’s and mixed leagues, as well as “Pickleball 101” classes and scrambles.

The grand opening is scheduled for early November. Memberships and court scheduling will be available through a phone app. As part of the membership drive, the first 100 participants to sign up will receive a free paddle.

The community venue will also feature a small kitchenette and restrooms.

Community members are encouraged to follow Nasty Nelson Pickleball Courts on Facebook at @Nasty Nelson Pickleball Courts and sign up during the membership drive.
