Kelley Jud Lackey

Kelley Jud Lackey, 68, formerly of Parsons, Kansas, passed away Sunday, Feb. 17, at his home in Stockton.

He was born April 15, 1950 in Neodesha, Kansas to Jud and Ruth (Knox) Lackey. As a child he lived in Vinita, Oklahoma until his family moved to Parsons in 1960. He attended Prairie Valley School and then Labette County Community High School.

Summers were spent working with his Dad at Jarboe-Lackey Feedlot. After high school he bought his first semi-truck and hit the road. He hauled everything from strawberries to bombs, thoroughly enjoying his life on the road.

He and Kristine Schmidt Lackey were married in 1971 and his only child Kelley Jud Lackey II was born. They later divorced. In 1981 he married Linda Bush. They were married for 30 years before divorcing in 2016.

In his retirement, Kelley enjoyed gardening, building things out of pallet wood and his Scottish Terrier dogs.

Survivors include his fiancée Deborah Cox, of the home; his son Kelley Lackey and wife Caroline, and their children, Ian and Kathryn, all of Emporia, Kansas; his sister Kathryn Lackey of Stockton; and two step-sons Brian and Darren Bush of Wichita, Kansas and Golden City.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at Thayer Cemetery on the south edge of Thayer, Kansas, on U.S. 169. (9c)
