Missouri’s weather forecast indicates snow and snow showers are expected. For part of the state, this could be the first snow of the season. Whether it’s a dusting or several inches, it can affect travel. Be sure to increase your following distance as you drive; stopping quickly on wet, snowy, or icy roads can be hazardous or impossible. Be aware that elevated roadways such as bridges and ramps may freeze faster, and a roadway that appears wet could be icy. Leaving at least five seconds between your vehicle and the one in front of you is always a smart idea, especially in inclement weather. During 2022 there were 51 people killed and 1,969 people injured in more than 7,500 crashes with weather conditions of snow, sleet/hail, or freezing.

JEFFERSON CITY – The Division of Fire Safety is urging caution as temperatures across Missouri plunge well below freezing for an extended period and more residents turn to space heaters and supplemental heating sources to provide additional heat in their homes. Most years, space heaters account for about one-third of home heating fires and 80 percent of heating fire deaths. Overloaded extension cords, power strips and generators also pose danger.

With temperatures running below zero this week, it may be time to focus on the fact that after winter comes spring. Always. Forever. And Ben and Janae Graham's entire family is expecting this spring. They are expecting their first new calves of their registered herd of Black Angus. They are expecting their ducklings to hatch. They are expecting their herbs and produce to pop out of the ground. And Janae Graham will go foraging for all sorts of herbs to add to her handmade herbal remedies. Their businesses are thriving on their holistic, all-natural farm just outside of Fair Play. It is a dream come to fruition for the Graham family. The dream started in 2020, and according to Janae, it has "...turned into a fun reality."

This week, Cedar County is coming out from a deep freeze. Temperatures began to bottom as the weekend approached. On Friday, temperatures started in the thirties. Then, they started dropping, and light snow and mist covered the roads, leading to slight travel problems. Temperatures quickly plunged, and the county saw windchills of -3 that night. The trend continued throughout the weekend, with wind chills hitting as low as -25. By Monday morning, a morning high of 7 degrees made residents feel like the weather was balmy. And today, the most hearty of fishermen might hit the lake again with temps expected to reach almost 40. Welcome to winter in Missouri.

Hello, everybody. Name is Cyrus. Cool name, right? I didn’t pick it out myself, but I’m grateful for the people who did. They definitely knew what they were doing. It’s a perfect name for a doberman pinscher and labrador retriever mix like me.

Thrift store "steals" take on new meaning as hundreds of dollars of items are stolen from SAMA porch
What happens to the town of Stockton when items left on the porch of the Stockton Area Ministerial Alliance (SAMA) are taken? The community loses. SAMA is staffed with volunteers who work hours and hours sorting and pricing items. They lift heavy furniture; they sort clothing; they organize and separate. All work is volunteer; each year, thousands of dollars go back into the Stockton community in several ways. Yet, some people who could get a tremendous bargain from walking inside the store and paying a pittance of what it is worth never get that opportunity. And an incalculable amount of money does not go back into the community. Why? Because others have stolen it.

According to Bruce Rogers, city manager, one officer who is retiring will go to work for Cedar County after his retirement. Schiereck took a position out of the area. "Those two are not leaving because of salary," Rogers pointed out.
