Willis Marion Cagle

Willis Marion Cagle, 87, passed away Thursday, June 11. 

Willis was born in Catoosa, Oklahoma, on Sept. 9, 1932. 

Willis was drafted by the U.S. Army in Nov. 1955, and served through Aug. 23, 1957, and was stationed in Alaska. Upon being discharged, he attended Connors Junior College and East Central University in Oklahoma earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in mathematics and physical education. He spent 28 years in the Missouri public school system coaching basketball, football, and baseball at Southwest High, Salem and Camdenton. During his time in the public school system, he was a principal and superintendent at Purdy, Morrisville, and Diamond. While teaching and coaching, he completed a master’s degree at the University of Arkansas and a specialist degree at University of Central Missouri. 

Willis grew up on a ranch in Oklahoma. He maintained a love for ranching in Morrisville and later in Stockton. He enjoyed coaching, farming and mingling at the local coffee shops with many colorful friends he made along the way. Since 2017, he lived in St. Louis, Missouri, spending time with his children and grandchildren. We will miss his stories and are grateful for the shared history he taught as a foundation for life lessons.  

Survivors include his youngest brother James Cagle and wife Lynda Cagle of Dallas, Texas; daughter Jo Cagle; son Zane Cagle; daughter-in-law Lee Cagle; as well as grandchildren Aiko Lissie Cagle and Kai Marion Cagle, all of St. Louis, Missouri.  

He is proceeded in death by his parents, Earnest and Lissie; brothers Carl Cagle, Donald Cagle and Harold Cagle; and his wife, Janice Dee Cagle, who he married on June 6, 1964. 

A graveside memorial is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, June 18,, at the Wofford Cemetery in Catoosa, Oklahoma, by Michael Tunnell of Stockton Christian Church. 

Arrangements have been coordinated through Shrader Funeral Home, Ballwin.
