James Lee Clemensen was born in Orange, California, on Nov. 28, 1942. He went home to be with the Lord on Oct. 22, 2021.

Jim grew up in the bay area of California where he joined his high school swim team.  He was passionate about swimming, and it remained a hobby of his throughout his life.

Jim was also very passionate about his work. In his early career, he was a Law Enforcement Officer with the California Highway Patrol until he was forced to retire in 1979 due to a heart disability. He went on to be a very successful business owner, community leader and a church planter.

Jim was a loving husband, a caring father and a true friend to thousands of people across the country. He turned the disability he had with his physical heart into a powerful ability to love, foster and lead young teenage boys from all over this country with his true heart.

In 1990, he founded Agape Boarding School. This ministry was to become one of the premier youth outreaches in the country. Jim Clemensen has been one of the greatest positive influences on the troubled teen industry of this generation. Anyone who has had the opportunity to sit with him and get to know him on even the least of personal levels could never miss the sincere love and devotion he had not only for the troubled youth but for his fellow man.

The greatest desire of his heart was to see teenagers saved by the grace of God and then go on to be successful young men.

Perhaps Jim’s greatest attribute was the faith he had in God. Jim always started his day reading his Bible, praying and walking with the Lord. Anyone who knew James Clemensen loved him and held him in high regard. He was not only a great builder of buildings, but was a builder of people. He laid foundations of faith; he put together principles; he developed direction; he nurtured new beginnings, he constructed character; he structured self-confidence; and he labored with love. There are scores upon scores of former students who would give this testimony, “Without the influence of ‘Bro. Clemensen’ my life would be ruined, or I might even be dead.” He was a God-sent man who will be remembered for his loving spirit.

Jim is survived by his wife, Kathy Clemensen; children, Mike and his wife, Tracy; Paul and his wife, Kris; Tammy Brewer; Bryan and his wife, Kirsty; Debbie and her husband Ron; Allan and his wife, Angela; Stacey and her husband, Rich; Samantha and her husband, Robert. He leaves behind 29 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind a sea full of former students who had the opportunity to be loved by “Bro. Clemensen.”

Services are at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, at the Agape Baptist Church, with burial in the Agape Memorial Cemetery.
