Posted

Eve Lorene Underwood was born on May 9, 1927, to Jesse Lee and Myrtle Aleen (Millhouse) Pendergraph. She was one of eight children. She entered into the Lord’s presence on Dec. 11, 2020, at the age of 93 years, 7 months and two days.

She married James Peter Underwood on Dec. 16, 1945. To this union three children were born: Linda Lorene Crabbe, James Wesley Underwood, and Teresa Aleen and husband Don Barr; followed by six grandchildren, one step-grandchild, three great-grandchildren and two step-great grandchildren.

Lorene was saved at an early age and belonged to Mt. Enon Missionary Baptist Church, which she attended faithfully for many years. She served as teacher to the young people’s class and as representative to the Missionary Baptist Convention several times. She was primarily a homemaker, working alongside her husband on the farm. When necessary, she worked outside of the home at different jobs. She loved just being outside and loved gardening and growing flowers.

She moved to Clinton, Montana, in 1974 with her husband and children. She returned to the Stockton area after her husband passed in 1979, where she spent a lot of time in the company of family and friends.

Many may remember her sense of humor and acts of Christian faith, love and kindness. She was happy to witness all three of her children saved.

She returned to Clinton, Montana, in 2006 when her eldest daughter Linda and husband Dave retired and moved back to Montana.

There, she lived with her youngest daughter Teresa and her husband Don.

Although she hated to cook (a joke and secret to some), she was an excellent cook and loved to share with family and friends her whole life.

While in Missouri, she loved to organize and host family reunions, where there was always good food and fun to be had by all.

She spent the last two years at the Benefis Teton Medical Center Extended Care in Choteau, Montana, due to declining health. The family is grateful to the staff there for the excellent care she was given.

Survivors include all her children, grandchildren, step grandchild, great grandchildren, step grandchild, great grandchildren, sister Barbara Geisser, brother David Pendergraph and his partner Marge Ganaway, many beloved nieces and nephews, many dear friends, some new and some of many years.

She is preceded in death by both parents; husband Jim; two infant sisters, Wanda May and Peggy Joyce; three brothers and their wives, Junior Lee and Mary Pendergraph, Robert and Nadine Pendergraph, Dee and Sara Pendergraph, one brother-in-law Frank (Bud) Geisser; son-in-law Dave Crabbe, grandson-in-law Gary Bender; and a host of extended family and friends.

Lorene has been cremated and her ashes will be buried alongside her husband when weather permits. She also has a headstone in the Stockton Cemetery where people may pay their respects if wanted.

Donations may be made in memory of Lorene Underwood to the Cedar County Missionary Baptist Association in care of Leon Jones, 10895 E. 1350 Road, Stockton.
