Senior athletes saw the Stockton community show its collective support the evening of Friday, May 1, as dozens of vehicles decked out in support of Stockton High School Tiger sports traversed from field to field across the city in support of all facets of Tiger athletics.
Parents, teachers, family members, coaches and community supporters all played a role in giving SHS seniors a well-intended moment of support despite having no games to play, no races to run and no matches to compete in due to the current social distancing guidelines in place.
Track and field athletes at SHS celebrated their athletic careers on Friday evening, despite a global pandemic cutting the season short before it could even begin.
Seniors from the track dressed out in their running uniforms and ran a relay under the lights in celebration of their years of effort and commitment.
“These guys weathered the cancelation [of their season] as best they could,” SHS cross-country coach T.Jay Sanderson said.
“We were set for a great year with a strong group of leaders. I truly believe every one of our seniors was state-bound, too.”
For the better part of half an hour, team members at several different school locations returned smiles and waves from a supportive community celebrating the efforts of all SHS senior athletes.
