Greg was born May 2, 1965, in Osceola, the son of Tony and Thelma (Swearengin) Underwood.
He was married Dec. 7, 1991, in Columbia, to Barbie Klaverkamp.
Greg lived his life for his family and friends. His greatest joys were watching his children grow into amazing adults. If you asked him, he would tell you about Hannah catching her first fish on the banks of Horse Creek.
His “shadow,” Brian, who when asked how he busted his chin open and required stitches responded, “ I wasn’t doing anything. It just started bleeding!” or the time he and Billy were sitting on the tailgate of his truck watching Derek play catch off of the tree.
Greg was an accomplished coach. He coached Brian’s Columbia Youth Football team, the Colts, Brian’s Steelers baseball team and Derek’s Starpath baseball team.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara, of the home; three children, Hannah Underwood of Overland Park, Kansas; Brian Underwood of Columbia and Derek Underwood of Columbia; parents Tony and Thelma of El Dorado Springs; one brother, Tim Underwood and Shelly Young of Stockton, and his dear friend, Billy Williams.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Roy and Alaska Swearengin and George and Delta Underwood.
To say he will be greatly missed is a total understatement.
Graveside services were held 1 p.m., Saturday, April 13, at Freeman Holsapple Cemetery, Collins.
Pallbearers were Rory Allison, Daryl Kemp, Rand Williams, Stacey Tatum, Eric Jones and Steve Humble.
