Aug. 3, 1940-April 8, 2019
Bobby Joe Garner, son of Monroe Harvey Garner and Marie Olive (Gregory) Garner, was born on Aug. 3, 1940, in Wright County. He departed this life April 8, 2019 in his home in Bolivar surrounded by his loving wife and family at the age of 78.
On Feb. 11, 1967, Bobby married the love of his life, Elma Dee. God blessed them with two baby girls, Donis Marie (Garner) Ewing and Kristina Jo (Garner) Hottes. Bobby served in the United States Army for three years stationed in Schofield Barracks, Hawaii and Ft. Riley, Kansas.
He retired from the Corps of Engineers in 1996, after serving 26 years.
Bobby Joe had many titles in his life, but by far his favorite was the one his grandchildren gave him, Papa Bobby. Never missing an event, rain or shine, Papa Bobby watched his daughters run in high school and college, then cheered loudly through the many baseball, softball, track, cross country and basketball games of his grandchildren.
If Papa Bobby wasn’t at an event for his family, you could probably find him with a gun in his hand out hunting. He loved elk hunting in Colorado with his two sons-in-law, Steve and Michael, along with friends George Berry, Steve Butcher and Les White.
He also enjoyed helping the communities in need with the Disaster Relief Program and various mission trips.
He is preceeded in death by his parents, twin brothers Randal and Russel Garner; baby sister Barbara Sue.
He is survived by his wife Elma, two daughters Donis Ewing and husband Steve; and Kristina Hottes; five grandchildren, Nathan Ewing, Josh and Sarah Ewing, Hannah Ewing, Kacey and Sarrah Hottes.
Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 12, service to follow at 11 a.m. and a family lunch will follow services at First Southern Baptist Church, Stockton. Graveside services, 3 p.m., Coon Creek Cemetery, Hartville.
