50 years ago, June 12, 1969

The huge Stockton Dam will soon be ready with only 600 cubic yards of concrete to be poured and a small amount of fill work yet to be completed. Impoundment of water is expected to start in the fall.

The Rev. James Kabler is the new pastor at Stockton United Methodist Church. He comes to Stockton after pastoring two churches in Sparta and Ebenezer.

Mr. and Mrs. Duane Graves and Mr. and Mrs. Theo Baumgarner of Stockton attended the second annual UKC night Hunt and Bench Show, June 7, in Gallatin. The Graves hounds took the Best of Breed UKC registered Treeing Walker Division, senior male with Sac River Ranger. The Baumgarner hounds took first in Night Hunt, grade division with Sac River King.

25 years ago, June 15, 1994

The Stockton Board of Aldermen and Mayor Wendell Cully voiced their full support of the DARE program and of police chief Leland McMasters’ work with the program during the board’s Monday, June 13, meeting. There had been confusion as to how the DARE program is being funded and whether McMasters was being paid by Cedar County school districts to teach the DARE class. The program is funded by donations and the schools do not pay the chief for his time. The board noted McMasters teaches DARE in El Dorado Springs on his own time and is paid standby time while teaching in Stockton.

The annual Arnica picnic is Saturday-Sunday, June 18-19, at Arnica Park. Music acts include the Craft Family and Midnight Fire.

State senate candidates Don Lucietta, Ed Payton, Morris Westfall and Franz Penner spoke at a public forum Thursday, June 9, at the Stockton High School gymnasium.

The third annual CAST (Catch a Special Thrill) for Kids event was Saturday, June 6, at Stockton Lake. A total of 42 special youngsters, all but two from the special education department of Stockton school district, went fishing with volunteers from the region.

Kids Day at the Park was presented by Cedar County Drug Court Saturday, June 6, at El Dorado City Park. Children of all ages enjoyed games and won tickets which they exchanged for prizes.

The El Dorado Springs High School spring sports banquet was Wednesday, May 27. Baseball awards went to Kannon Hoover, Trevor Quinlan, Colt Whitesell and Trey Barger. Track awards went to Trae Hall, Dusty Hooper and Brooke Hamilton.
