Stockton R-I was one 261 Missouri school districts to earn the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Total Fleet Excellence Award, given to districts whose bus fleets earn at least 90% approval from the Driver and Vehicle Safety Division’s annual bus inspection program.

Stockton had 19 of its 21 buses approved, or 90.5%. With the award, the R-I fleet can carry a Total Fleet Excellence sticker during the 2019-2020 school year.

This marks the first time Stockton has earned the award in at least three years. In 2018, 17 of 20 Stockton buses were approved, or 85%. In 2017, 17 of 21 buses were approved, or 81%.

“We our very proud of our transportation department and their commitment to safety,” Dr. Shannon Snow, R-I superintendent, said.

In the inspection program, buses found to have no defective items are rated as approved. Buses having one or more defective items which do not constitute an immediate danger are rated as defective. Buses with a defective item which constitutes an immediate danger are rated as out of service.

El Dorado Springs R-II had 13 of its 18 buses approved this year, or 72.2%. In 2018, 11 of 18 buses were approved, or 61.1%. In 2017, 18 of 19 buses were approved, or 94.7%, good enough to win the award.

“The Missouri State Highway Patrol works closely with schools and private pupil transportation companies to ensure our students have safe transportation to and from school-related events. This professional relationship is most evident during the annual school bus inspection and results in a successful program,” Col. Eric T. Olson, highway patrol superintendent, said. “The annual school bus inspection program is just one way the Missouri State Highway Patrol serves and protects our children and it will remain a priority.”
