It’s never too early to plan your holiday events, and the Fourth of July weekend will be no exception.

The Stockton Area Arts Council, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Woody’s Fast Stop have planned an array of events to help celebrate the creation of the lake 50 years ago in 1969.

It’s time to mark your calendar for a weekend of fun.

Beginning at noon Friday, July 5, a ceremony will be held below the dam to commemorate the anniversary. There will be dam tours, a pictorial history of the dam’s construction, military equipment on display and more.

Besides the celebration of the lake, Ozarks traditions will be a part of the day’s events. Friday afternoon will feature music by local artists Robin’s Hood and Kentucky 31, followed by the nationally-celebrated headliner Marideth Sisco and her band. Friday evening, a chainsaw-carving contest will take place and span both days of the festival.

Saturday will focus on children’s art and educational activities from 9 a.m.-noon. There will be animals from Springfield’s Dickerson Park Zoo, face painting, Bo Brown will offer survival skills, artists will share art activities and a show will be presented by Professor Farquar and Polecat Annie.

Food, beer and wine will be available for purchase both days and vendors will offer primitive and fine art displays.

Cost each day is $5 admission, and 12 and younger can enter free with an adult. Bring your lawn chair and enjoy a full weekend of celebration and fun. No coolers will be allowed.
