Lions Club donates toward Stockton fireworks display

Posted

Stockton Lions Club President Rick Spiker recently presented Mayor Brandon Cahill with a donation of $2,275 to help fund Stockton's annual fireworks display.

The Lions Club collects donations from the public during the Independence Day celebration, and proceeds from those efforts help offset the cost of the following year's display.

This year's Independence Day celebration will be held July 2. Cahill said the city has budgeted $25,000 for the fireworks display in recognition of the nation's 250th anniversary.

Cahill said the donation is appreciated and will help the city reach its funding goal.

Festivities will include the opening of the Stockton High School football field, along with food trucks, vendors and live entertainment by The Mixtapes, a 1990s tribute band from Springfield.

The Woods Supermarket parking lot will host the American Legion's smoked pulled pork meal and ice cream sale, as well as the Lions Club's funnel cake stand. Lions Club members will continue collecting donations throughout the event from various locations.

Cahill encouraged attendees to exercise caution around parking areas and roadways, noting that pedestrian traffic is expected to be heavy during the celebration.

Additional information is available through the Stockton Area Chamber of Commerce. Flyers containing a donation QR code are also available on community bulletin boards.
