Korth Center honors outgoing building board members

Posted

The Korth Center honored outgoing Building Board members President Ron Broksieck, Secretary-Treasurer Patty Thompson and voting member Ray Stapert. Having served on the board since the late 1990s, their combined efforts resulted in more than 150,000 hours of community volunteer work.

"It's been a long road. We oversaw two different groundbreaking events to get the center going," Broksieck said, referring to the catastrophic F-3 tornado in May 2003 that devastated the town.

Chris McCune, regional director for Care Connection for Aging Services, said of the board's service, "That this center is here and up and running successfully is a testament to their hard work and dedication."

The Korth Center operates under two separate and distinct boards. The Korth Center Service Board oversees the day-to-day operations, food services and center activities. The Building Board is responsible for upkeep and maintenance of the property, building infrastructure and associated utilities.

Care Connection and the Area Agency on Aging aim to serve the community by providing opportunities to create a positive aging experience, ensuring seniors live with maximum independence, respect and dignity. The ongoing partnership provides a lunch meal, a friendly environment to share it and activities such as painting, "Hillbilly" bingo, cards and pool.

Donations are the basis of funding for all operations, making volunteer work critical. Assuming the duties of Building Board members are Vicki Klinedinst, Frederick Allenbaugh and Sarah Lazarus.

Currently, the Service Board is conducting a "Change War," a fundraising effort challenging the El Dorado Springs Senior Center in a donation contest. The center also will host a Father's Day Feast featuring open-faced hot beef sandwiches from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, June 21. All proceeds will go toward the ongoing operations of the Korth Center.
