Bill Jones

Bill Jones, 82, of Odessa passed away on Saturday, Sept. 11, at home.

Bill was born July 18, 1939, in Collins, and raised by his aunt and uncle, Ruth and Bill Jackson.  He graduated in 1957 from Collins High School in Collins. After high school, he started helping a local farmer, bailing hay, hauling milk and raising cattle. After farming, Bill had various trucking jobs until he went to work for Ferrellgas in 1977. Bill then went to work for Salley’s Propane in 1992 and retired in 2008. 

On October 27, 1967, he was united in marriage to Sharon Kay Houk in Belton. She preceded him in death on November 4, 2016. Bill served on the board and was past president of the Odessa Fire Protection District for two terms. In addition to spending time with family and friends, Bill loved hunting, fishing, watching baseball and hanging out at the local gas station chatting with the locals. 

Survivors include three daughters, Becky Ostermeyer and husband Dale of Odessa, Cathy Sells of Springfield and Teresa Fellers and husband Donnie of Wheatland; three grandchildren, Eric Sells, Matt Miser and wife Lacy, and Michael Fellers; two great-grandchildren, Hunter and Amelia Miser; one brother, Johnny McKinney and wife Linda of Sweet Springs; two brother-in-laws, Roy Houk and wife Sharlene of Stockton, and James Houk and wife Mary of Bolivar; three sisters-in-laws, Helen Daniels of Stockton, Sue Jones of Warsaw and Rose McKinney of Kansas City, Kansas; and many nieces and nephews. 

In addition to his wife, aunt and uncle, Bill was preceded in death by a grandson, Daniel Sells; two brothers, Bob Jones and Terrell McKinney; a son-in-law, Rick Sells; two brothers-in-laws, Denton Daniels and Doyle Houk and wife Esther; and a sister-in-law, Betty Daniels.          

A visitation will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 15, at the Ralph O. Jones Funeral Home, 306 S. 2nd St., Odessa, 64076, (816) 633-5524.  Bill’s request is for everyone to wear blue jeans to both services. 

A funeral will be held  at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 16, at Bland-Brumback Funeral Home, 306 S. High St., Stockton, MO, 65785, 276-4214. Interment will follow in the Alder Cemetery, rural Stockton.
