What’s new Orleans Trail

Orleans Trail Restaurant sees a new chef this year in Chris Angle. A 17-year veteran, Angle started in a kitchen washing dishes and worked his way up to chef with most of his experience as hands-on training.

“The menu isn’t the same as last year,” Angle said. Look for new menu items at O.T. this year, including premium hand-cut steaks and Italian dishes, but Angle said his specialty, if he has to name one, would be prime rib and shrimp tacos. Specials will be offered Saturdays and Sundays.

Chef’s pick: Mango chicken and 8 oz. fillet mignon, which he said you can cut with a fork.

Breakfast will offer not only new off-the-menu items such as stuffed french toast, a meat lovers’ skillet and a a fried breakfast burrito, but an omlet chef. Patrons can pick the items and watch the omlet made right in front of them. Breakfast is served from 8- 11 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Angle said to be sure to try the deep-fried mushroom appetizer. “Everyone who eats them just loves them,” he said.

But, be sure to save room for Angle’s homemade desserts, including grand marnier strawberry-cream cake and creme bruleé.

Bon appétit.

Red Barn Café

There’s a new place to eat in town — The Red Barn Café and Hen House Bakery. Shari Copenhaver opened a Stockton location of her successful Mt. Vernon restaurant April 1, and locals have been keeping the staff hopping.

Menu items of chicken-fried steak, fried chicken a breakfast buffet and soup and salad bar are just some of the surprises waiting for you. Desserts are just as good as grandma used to make, including cinnamon rolls as large as a dinner plate.

The Red Barn Café and Hen House Bakery is open from 6 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday- Saturday, and 7 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday, and is on MO 32, east of the square.
