Mrs. Cowan, 95, Stockton, died Tuesday, Dec. 19, at Lake Stockton Healthcare Facility. She was born in Cedar County to William “Bill” Oscar and Orbie Armada (Kennon) Emshwiller.

She was baptized at age 12 in Bear Creek and became a member of Alder Church until 1963, and then transferred her church membership to Stockton Christian Church. She graduated from Bear Creek High School in 1939.

She married Wade Dixon Cowan July 14, 1940, and four children, Sue, Sherry, Steve and Kelly, were born of the union.

She was active in Stockton Christian Church’s women’s council, where she served as officer for several years, and the University of Missouri Extension Club-Montgomery chapter. She worked for a couple of years in Stockton at the Clothes Land clothing store

Survivors include three daughters, Sue Saale and husband Mike of Carl Junction, Sherry Stephens and husband J.D. and Kelly Hendricks and husband Rod, all of Stockton; a son, Steve Cowan and wife Kathy of Columbia; seven grandchildren, Chele Childers, Kim Sloter, Nikki Hart, Zach Lollar, Taylor Cowan, Ely Hendricks and Jake Cowan; eight great-granchildren; two sisters-in-law, Edna Cowan of Kansas City and Helen Emshwiller of Fair Play; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wade of 41 years; and a brother, William “Buster’” Emshwiller.
