Visitation: noon-3 p.m. Saturday, March 10, at her former home in Umberland, 15015 E. 1804 Road, Stockton.

Mrs. Hobbs, 93, Stockton, died Tuesday, Feb. 20, at Cedar County Memorial Hospital, El Dorado Springs. She was born in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, the daughter of Harry and Frieda Eaton.

She graduated from Goodrich High School in 1942 and attended the Chicago Art Institute in Chicago, Illinois, where she studied interior design. She married Dick Feb. 19, 1944 in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. After living in Davenport, Iowa and Kansas City, the couple retired in 1978 to Stockton to live in the woods.

She was an avid gardener, transforming the hillside surrounding their home into a canvas filled with vivid colors throughout the spring and summer. She was passionate about reading, and was an active member of the Cedar County Library board for many years. She wrote a weekly column titled, Another Viewpoint, in the Cedar County Republican for 25 years.

Survivors include a daughter, Gayl Hobbs of El Dorado Springs; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Dick, founding director of the Stockton area chamber of commerce; and son, Dr. Tomm Hobbs.

As Joan wrote in one her columns titled, And So Life Goes On, “Memories never fade, but are recalled like rays of sunshine to keep loneliness from creeping in.”
