Mr. Thornton, 95, Stockton, died at 2:40 p.m. Tuesday, March 6, at Lake Stockton Healthcare Facility with family by his side after a battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born about two miles southeast of Stockton, the third child of William Harrison and Stella Cleo (Turner) Thornton.

He married Wanetta Faye Rosenbaum June 6, 1948, and Elder L. L. Tucker officiated. One son, Randall Dee, was born to the union. He was inducted into the U.S. Army Oct. 17, 1942, and was honorably discharged Dec. 31, 1945. His last 30 months of service was spent in the European Theatre with Company C 844th Engineer Aviation Battalion.

He was a member of Stockton Assembly of God Church where he served as a board member, Sunday school teacher and was Sunday school superintendant for 20 years.

Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Faye; a son, Randall and wife Cynthia of Stockton; grandchildren, Brent Thornton and fiance Tiffani Gish of Springfield, Chad Thornton and wife Daniela of Joplin and Kyle Thornton and fiance Ashley Reynolds of Fort Worth, Texas; great-grandchildren, Tabitha Thornton and Isabella Thornton of Joplin; a brother J. Thornton and wife Goldie of El Dorado Springs; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-father, Elis Hayward; three brothers, Hubert, Glenn and Billie Thornton; a sister, Juanita Hare; and daughter-in-law, Kathy Brumback Thornton.
