Oct. 2, 1926-March 17, 2019

Goldie Alline Thornton was born Oct. 2, 1926 in Mulberry, Kansas. She was the fifth of nine siblings born to John Walter and Ruby Pearl (Jackson) Yeokum. On Sunday, March 17, 2019, at the age of 92, Goldie passed from this life and joined all of her siblings and her parents in heaven. She had remained active and independent until she had a heart attack in February of 2018. The last several months she had resided at the Community Springs Healthcare Facility in El Dorado Springs.

When Goldie was very young, the family moved from Kansas to California in search of work. They lived there for a few years before buying a small farm west of Stockton and moving to Missouri. Goldie attended school in Stockton and was the first in her family to graduate high school. Soon after graduation she met the love of her life, J. Thornton and they were soon married. To this union three children were born, Bernard J., Janice Lyn and Sharon Elaine.

Goldie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a great cook and many times cooked a big supper meal for hay hands at midnight when they finished hauling in the hay for the day. She was a mother figure to many more children than just her own three. Goldie helped raise her three small brothers after her mom passed away at only 47 years old. Many summers she had grandchildren and nieces and nephews that spent time in her home. Her door was always open and she welcomed one and all. She was definitely a multi-faceted woman that could milk cows with the best of them, plow the fields like a hired hand and dress up in her high heels to go out square dancing every Saturday night. She was a very special lady who will be missed by many.

Goldie leaves to mourn her passing, her husband of seventy-four years, Bernard J. Thornton, Sr.; her son, Bernard J. Thornton, Jr. and wife Linda; her daughters, Janice Lyn (Thornton) Carter, Sharon Elaine (Thornton) Kennon; eight grandchildren, Gina Allison, Aaron Blystone (Tamara), Elizabeth Stedman, Katherine Burgess (Aaron), Adam Thornton (Shauna), Christopher Carter, Jennifer Austin and Eric Carter (Ariel); fourteen great-grandchildren, Zachery, Brant and Chandler Allison (Staci), Keely and Alexander Stedman, Mackenna Blystone (Rachael and Camden), Tyler Burgess, Gabriel CarterWills, Eli Carter, Rylan Austin, Jacob and Matthew Carter, Lola and Tucker Thornton; two sisters-in-law; Bonnie and Pat Yeokum; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Goldie was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ruby Yeokum; all of her siblings, Kenneth, Johnnie, Eugene and Cleo Yeokum, Leona Timms, Lois Hartsook, Norma Chambers, Ethel Tennis; and two sons-in-law, Dennis Kennon and Allen Carter.

Services were held on Friday, March 22 at the Bland-Brumback Funeral Home in Stockton, with interment following in the Stockton City Cemetery. Pallbearers were Aaron Blystone, Mackenna Blystone, Zachery Allison, Chandler Allison, Brant Allison and Denny Thornton. Music was provided by nephew Denny Thornton. Brent Bland officiated the service. (13c)
