Mrs. Herdman, 97, Paola, Kansas, died Wednesday, April 20, 2016, at North Point Skilled Nursing Home, Paola. She was born at Lenexa, Kansas, the fourth of seven children of Remi and Mayme Boehm.
She was 6 years old when the family moved to Paola where she attended grade school and high school. She then went to Kansas City and worked for H.D. Lee’s as a machine operator in the garment industry.
In March 1962, she married Willard Herdman, her husband of 44 years. Esther retired from the garment industry in 1971. In 1976, after Willard retired, they moved to Stockton. Esther accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She was a member of Stockton Christian Church and a 30-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She was active as a volunteer — six years at the Stockton Nursing Home and 14 years at the Stockton Senior Center delivering meals on wheels to shut-ins. She resided at North Point since February 2014 when she moved there from Lake Stockton Healthcare Facility.
Survivors include a brother, Charles Boehm of Paola; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, four sisters and a brother.
