Harv Welch is no longer athletic director or high school football coach of El Dorado Springs High School.
During the executive sesson Thursday, Nov. 14, the board of education unanimously voted to place Welch on administrative leave Friday, Nov. 15, and allowed superintendent Mark Koca to begin working on a separation agreement.
If an agreement is not reached, the district will have to pay the remainder of Welch’s contract. Koca and high school principal David Hedrick have taken over as interim athletic directors. Koca said the district is searching for someone within the district to hire as the new athletic director. If no one meets the qualifications, Koca will search outside the district.
Koca said he could not comment on why Welch was relieved of his duties, but said the district will begin its search for a head football coach sometime after Jan. 1, 2014.
Welch was contacted by the Cedar County Republican, but declined to comment on the situation.
